Free
Speech Issues
1. Facebook’s
marketing director, who happens to be Mark Zuckerberg’s sister, proposed last
year that banning online anonymity would help curtail cyber-bullying and
Internet harassment. Then-Google CEO Eric Schmidt made a similar observation in
year 2010, noting that “privacy is incredibly important” but “not the same
thing as anonymity.” If banning is already imposed or will be imposed would
this stop annoying comments against someone freely posted by an anonymous FB
user? Is this ethical? Is this against the freedom of speech? Support your
answer.
If banning would be imposed it would possibly lessen annoying
comments against someone who is anonymous for they cannot post anything that
can harm to other people if their account will be banned. For me it is ethical to
ban this people for they are not bringing any good to others and they are just
doing harmful/annoying things. It is stated in computer ethics that, we should
not use a computer to harm other people. Yes, we have the freedom of speech but
everything has its limitations no matter what it is, and again if what they have
post is alarming, frightening and disturbing, then it would be right to ban
them. It is also for the welfare of other people.
2. Is
it ethical to blog both awful and pleasant experiences with your ex-girlfriend
/ ex-boyfriend? Discuss.
There are things that need to be cherish only with both parties
and there are also things that can be shared to others. To blog awful and
pleasant experiences with your ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend could be ethical or
unethical depending on the experiences. It is a case to case basis. But,
according to the law, we have the freedom to express what we want to express,
we have freedom of speech, it is now the responsibility for the user what to
share to others.
